4/30/12

Kenzie ate all of her mixed fruit and several bites of Kix at breakfast.  At lunch she ate everything and was so proud of herself!  She announced, "I ate it all!" with a big grin on her face.

Kenzie and Joslyn both really got the hang of the sit and spins and were having fun twirling and pretending to drive.  They can't spin themselves fast enough to make themselves dizzy, so it works great.

Kenzie was pretty excited that Coral was here today and followed her around saying "hi Coral".  I asked Coral how many time she thought she had told her "Hi" and Coral said at least 10 and that wasn't long after breakfast!  : )

Kenzie really looked at all of the stuffed animals today and found the two cat-in-the-hats to carry around with pleasure.  She also liked the little Timon from the Lion King and wanted both of them, but Morgan wanted one of them so she shared pretty well.

Coral helped the kiddos build a "house" with the big interlocking blocks that was just big enough for one child inside.  She built it tall enough so that we had to lift each kiddo into it.  When they got in, they each loved squatting down inside to "hide" and Kenzie thought is was really great when Coral then put a blanket over the top to make it dark briefly.  Talk about chuckling...

4/27/12

Kenzie ate most of her rice out of her bowl and some of the raisins at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her dried apricots and her meatloaf, several bites of her french bread and a taste of cooked carrots.

Kenzie and most of the other kiddos were super wild before breakfast.  They were racing around, being loud and just having a great time (unless they crashed into someone else while being crazy or someone was impeding their progress).  After breakfast they all kind of settled back down into typical mode, which was way more manageable.

Kenzie and Morgan were being silly today.  They were walking back and forth across the big room - walking backwards one direction and frontwards the other.  What made the whole thing funnier was that they were making "beep"ing sounds when they were going backwards (just like the big trucks do when they back up).  I didn't notice who started that, but it was pretty cute!

Kenzie was filling up the biggest bag we have out with all types of toys.  Fact is, the floor was mostly cleaned up after she was done (with only a few extras that she couldn't fit in scattered around).  I commented on how much she had in her bag and she lit up and gave me an enthusiastic "Yeah!"

Kenzie was jumping and playing on the mattress today and kept saying, "I did a back flop!"  I am not sure if that was supposed to be a back flip or a belly flop, but either way it was pretty funny!

4/26/12

Kenzie told me "my pony falling out" not long after she came this morning.  It really wasn't falling out, the little hairs in the front were just loosening and in her face bugging her.  I put a little pony in front to hold the baby hairs and pulled it back in the the bigger on and that satisfied her.

Kenzie, Jadey, Morgan and Emily were playing a version of "hide-and-seek".  Jadey is the one that kind of directed it.  She told Kenzie where to hide and that she would go "count to 10" (which really ended up being only to three).  Two to four of them play it over and over (must have been about 20 minutes, at least).  The funny part is that they always not only count in the same spot, but the other ones hide in the same spot too.  The counter was at the end of the mattress by the changing table and the "hiders" were around the back of the changing table in that corner.  The counter would always announce, "Here I come" and the hiders would giggle!  The hiders then would announce "You scared me" when the counter "found" them.  It was so funny to watch.  I tried to help them find different hiding places a couple times, but that was NOT acceptable!  Both Kenzie and Jadey told me, "No!  We hide here!"  : )

I know we already told momma Jamie this, but a couple of the kiddos were feeling the bumps on the door mat outside and a couple of the kiddos were trying to step on the little fingers exploring.  I said, " Remember, we don't step on fingers!"  Kenzie immediately came back with, "We only step on toes!"  : )

4/25/12

Gary was teasing Kenzie off an on all morning and she really vacillated between loving it and laughing and being unhappy with it and yelling at him.

Kenzie was imitating Morgan exactly this morning -- purse, serving tray, shoes and marching all around right after Morgan.  What made it even funnier was that Thomas was trying to imitate them both and has some of the "right" stuff and followed along about 10 seconds delayed!  It was really cute!

While the kiddos were waiting to wash their hands for lunch Joslyn was sitting there sucking her thumb (tired).  Kenzie obviously was watching her because she popped her thumb in her mouth too and said, "I copying Jossy!"  Then about a minute later, "What we doing?"  : )  Silly girl!

Several of the kiddos were pretending to put sunscreen on each other.  They would hold their hand in front of each other and say, "spray-spray-spray-spray..." and then 'rub' in the pretend sunscreen spray.  They also were telling each other to "close your eyes" and waiting until they did before doing the faces.

4/24/12

Kenzie was really complaining about her eyes hurting and rubbing them this morning.  I also thought they looked kind of puffy all morning too.  I may be just projecting, but I am wondering if she might not have a touch of allergies because my eyes were also bugging me this morning and our room mate, Kate has been sneezing like crazy this morning and last night.

Kenzie cracked me up today when she was stuffing scarves down the neck of her shirt today.  She didn't verbalize what she was doing or thinking as she did it, so I don't know but I have to say it looked pretty funny!  : )

Kenzie was really spinning to the music in one of the tutus today.  As soon as I turned on the music she started and she was the last one to quit also.  I don't know how many times she fell down in between, but all of them were on the mattress or carpet, so no "owies".  I have noticed that she seems to get dizzy quicker than the other kiddos appear to.  I can totally relate and empathize!

4/23/12

Kenzie ate all of her mixed fruit and several bites of her Chex cereal at breakfast.  At lunch she ate most of her tomato soup, about half of her apple slices and a bite of her roast beef sandwich.

Kenzie give both Gary and I really sweet loves multiple times this morning, the first ones being the longest.  She also came over and just sat on my lap a couple different times and told me she was "tired".  She wasn't fussy or feisty at all, though so that was nice.

Kenzie was searching for a phone and two bracelets (one for each arm) for both Morgan and Jadey (then Emily asked her to help also).  She was very successful and they were all thrilled.

Kenzie told us "I got a new toy!" very excitedly this morning, but was unable to tell us anything else about it (where she got it, who gave it to her, what it was...).  That cracked us up because she was so emphatic about it.

Kenzie had a play fork in one hand and a scarf in the other and was really poking at the scarf with the fork.  When i asked what she was doing, she looked at me quizzically and said, "I cuttin' it!"  Of course....

4/20/12

Kenzie ate most of her prunes and a few bites of oatmeal at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her mandarin oranges, about half of her biscuit and a couple bites of hashbrown casserole.

Kenzie and Jadey played together well and most of whole group time.  She and Morgan tried playing together a couple times, but each time it ended up in conflict.  Jadey and Kenzie were playing in the cradle together today a lot.  They would be in it and then out to do something else, then back in.  One of the times Jadey said, "Get in the cradle and be cute!  I'll take a picture of you!"  It cracked me up!  : )

For a while there were several of them at the little picnic table.  I can never figure out how they decide who get to eat and who does the feeding, but today Kenzie was the one getting fed by Jadey, Thomas and Aaron.  Kenzie was loving it until Jadey got a little to exuberant at she pushed the spoon in Kenzie's mouth.  That ended the fun.

In the back room she and Morgan did build with the Duplo blocks along side each other.  I had to facilitate separating the blocks into sections for them because invariably they wanted the same ones.  After I did that things went fine.

4/19/12

Kenzie ate most of her melon and all of her french bread at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her turkey and dried mangoes, most of her crescent roll and a tiny taste of squash.

Kenzie was very cuddly prior to breakfast.  She wasn't fussy at all, just wanted to sit on my lap and observe what was going on rather than actually be involved. After breakfast she was back to her usual busy self.

Kenzie was doing what we call "snow plowing" with her head today.  She started doing it first -- being on hands and knees with the top of her head (behind the forehead) on the floor and crawling around that way.  Our little "pack" of toddlers all had to start imitating her as soon as they saw what she was doing so we had five of them then.  They only did it for a minute or two though, then quit, but she continued for another couple minutes.

Jadey was massaging Kenzie's shoulders again today on the climber steps.  After a while Jadey went and sat in front of Kenzie in hopes of some reciprocation, but Kenzie only gave her shoulders a token squeeze before jumping up to do something different.

4/18/12

Kenzie was alternating between playing with Jadey and Morgan quite a bit today.  I don't think the three of them played together at all today.

Kenzie and Morgan were laughing and having so much fun pretending it was "nap time" on the mattress.  They were using the teddy bears to cuddle at first, then they decided to use the bears (laid down in the corner by the mattress and changing table) actually for their bed.  They lay them all out in a fairly even layer then plopped down on top of them to sleep.

Kenzie and Jadey were using the cradle as their car and, at Jadey's lead, were pretending to be going "to the steak house".

Kenzie has really been enjoying this set of dress-ups, primarily the tutus and one specific pair of shoes.

4/17/12

Kenzie ate all of her dried apricots and a bite of her whole wheat bagel at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her applesauce and noodles, bites of peas and a bite of tilapia.

Kenzie came in with an interesting attitude this morning and it continued for a while.  She was yelling or crying at the other children for extremely minor infractions.  After about 20 minutes pretty straight of that, we finally had her go play in the back room of choice for a little.  We told her she could come back out just as soon as she was ready to be a "good friend".  After about 10 minutes of enjoying the "new" toys back there, she came out with a new and improved attitude.  : )  She had a couple little spats the rest of the morning, but overall it was MUCH better.

When she first came back out she asked to cuddle, which we did for a few minutes when she was done and wanted to join Morgan in play.

Kenzie and Jadey were playing with the play mixers again today and Jadey was making a very intense growling mixer sound.  Kenzie was really looking at her to begin with and then she started laughing and it eventually led to Kenzie trying to imitate the sound.

4/16/12

Kenzie was very excited to explore the "new" toys this morning.  She especially liked the dress up things -- shoes, tutus, purses, bracelets, and scarves.  She had at least one of about everything on and was strutting around watching herself in the mirror.

Kenzie and Jadey played together quite a bit today and got along great for the most part.  They were filling the dramatic play purses until they were bulging and spent time "cooking" with the mixers, bowls and spatulas.  They also had plates full of cookies and brownies that they were offering to the other kiddos.  The only time of conflict they had came over one of the mixers.  Jadey was using it and Kenzie left the one she was playing with and went over and tried to take Jadey's.  Jadey held tight and told her to "find your own!"  Kenzie started to go after her with her teeth, but backed right off when I called her name and touched her shoulder.

Kenzie loves looking through the books in every set we have.  Some times she is just reading or looking at them, but often she is searching for the tiniest tear or "owie" so she can take it to Gary.  She always calls them "broken" books.

Kenzie had mixed toilet learning results today.  She went twice when I took her and she had two accidents.  Both of the two accidents were when she told me.  It seemed to me that she was telling me after she had peed a little already (or a lot, with the last one).  Because of having baby rollers, creepers and crawlers I'm afraid we are going to just have to stick with the diapers/pull-ups for a while longer.  I just don't want wet floors for them to be on.

I don't know how many times Kenzie would tell one of her friends, "Bye!  Take care!" then either head to the cradle "car" or the dress up deal "car".  I loved the little "take care!" though!  How cute!

4/13/12

Kenzie was very busy today with the toys, materials and other kiddos.

Morgan was hanging out under the balance beam/climber deal and Kenzie decided that it would be a great idea to stuff teddy bears all around her.  Morgan thought that was pretty funny and let her jam them in there until she was pretty well packed!  : )

Maybe she was just into stuffing mode because she was also filling all of the hard hats with everything and anything she could find.  She had a lot of the food stuff in them, some tools, doll bottles and anything else she could get to fit.

For some reasons she decided that she didn't want anything at all to do with Jadey after the first few minutes, but did spend a lot of time playing with Morgan.

When she started getting tired before lunch she had a minor melt-down over a minor disagreement with Morgan and then a bigger one when Gary tried to help her problem solve.  The rest of the time was very peaceful and enjoyable though.

4/6/12

Kenzie ate several bites of her oatmeal and craisins at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her applesauce, noodle and peas casserole with cheese and bites of ground beef.

Kenzie was much less screechy without either Morgan or Jadey here.  I am sure that it wasn't just coincidence.  Group dynamics are so interesting even at this young age.  She had a very fun, smiley and engaged day.

Alayna really wanted to give Kenzie a hug today and came at her with her arms spread wide.  Kenzie raced over to me for "protection", saying, "I don't want a 'wuv'!"  It was pretty funny.  I gave Alayna the hug and things were all better.  That is kind of a good example of why it was probably less screechy though.  Alayna listens to the other kiddos words pretty well most of the time, where as Jadey and Morgan both just kind of keep pushing the issue many times.

Kenzie was so cute today cuddling and "reading" to the big teddy bear.  One of the books she was reading was one called "Where's Baby Natasha" and you have to find her on every page.  Kenzie looked at the picture of Natasha squeezing toothpaste all over and said, "Silly baby 'Atasha'!"

Joslyn asked Kenzie if she wanted to sit on her lap and read with her.  of course when she did then the book was so close to Kenzie's face that she couldn't see a thing!  They actually sat there like that for a couple minutes though.  It was pretty funny!

While Kenzie was "reading" to her bear in the yellow chair, I was sitting on the floor in front of her absentmindedly massaging her little feet.  When I stopped she said, "Again?" very dreamily.  A little bit later she then almost whispered, "That feels good!"

4/5/12

Kenzie only at a bite of both blue berries and the blueberry bread pudding at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her kiwi, about half of her green beans and a couple bites of her turkey burger on bun.

Kenzie got fussier and fussier as the morning progressed.  By 11:00 she was crying every time one of the other kiddos walked by her (literally) or she bumped her finger on a toy.  Her actions fit the description you gave of her having a restless night.  I took her out to do puzzles and watch me set up lunch to eliminate the struggles for her of having to deal with the other kiddos and too much stimulus.  She actually seemed to like that and enjoy the reprieve.

As I was watching Kenzie, Jadey and Morgan stroll around the play room with a phone in one hand and a set of keys in the other I thought of how representative it is of life today.  We almost always have a phone in hand or close by and are so busy going, going, going...

Morgan and Kenzie played together better again the first part of the morning.  They started out by both being in the cradle (their "car") and driving to "go get coffee" according to Kenzie.

Jadey did her usual "Story Time" announcement today.  Kenzie totally blew it off, then went over to the book rack, collected the rest of the books left in it, climbed up on the chair and announced "It's Story Read Time!" herself.  They then both started "reading" their books aloud!  Competition even there!  : )

4/3/12

Kenzie loves the doll cradles, but really does think they are for her to sit in.  Today she and several others were using them as a car.  We were fine with that unless it caused conflict then we had them get out for a while.  One of the times, it was actually kind of funny (since no one got hurt).  Kenzie and another kiddo were already in the cradle.  A third kiddo came over and tried to get in with them.  Obviously there wasn't enough room so Kenzie "helped" them back out.  The child already had both feet in and then she gave her the nudge to get out the kiddo tumbled out, kind of stood on her head for a couple seconds, then did a pretty good somersault.  I made myself not laugh then helped Kenzie remember to use words rather than hands.

Kenzie was collecting the keys today.  She found many different places to store them -- the little juice cups, the hard hats, the top of the dress up deal, under the cradle, in the cradle...  She can be very creative.

Today Kenzie had some conflict with both Morgan and Jadey off and on and actually ended up playing with Joslyn more than anyone.  I really shouldn't say, "playing with".  They were actually doing mostly parallel play -- doing the same types of things alongside each other without much interaction.  Kenzie tried to tell Joslyn what to do a couple times, but Joslyn is a little too headstrong for that and just went on doing what she wanted.

Today Jadey gathered a bunch of books, went to the couch and announced "Story Time!" like she usually does once a day.  No one headed over to listen to Jadey "read".  Kenzie was the only one that actually responded to her.  She said, "I busy goin' bye-bye!"  It was really cute.

4/2/12

I'm not sure where my notes for the 30th went, but Jadey's sister Emily came in and helped for the morning and all of the kiddos were thrilled with that.  She read to them, danced with them and just played and helped with them.  She did a nice job and the kiddos liked having her.  Kenzie especially loved it because Emily followed her "instructions" better than we often do.  : )

OK, back to the 2nd, Kenzie and Morgan started stapling things right away when they got here.  They especially liked stapling the posters, but had to try it on the floor, kitchen set, cradles, dolls and then tried to do it on each other.  We vetoed that idea, knowing it would end in someone either getting hurt or angry.

Kenzie was quite the looker today with her work boots, hard hat, doll and bottle.  She is definitely a working momma!  ; )  I looked at her and started laughing and then felt kind of bad because she looked at me like I had hurt her feelings.  I tried telling her that I was laughing because it was so cute, but she just shook her head and walked away (in disbelief, I think).

Kenzie had this huge stack of books (all but about 5 from the book rack) and kept telling everyone "that mine!" when they tried to come and get one of them.  Each time I asked her to pick one to share with her friend and she did without complaint.  She really doesn't seem to mind the sharing part.  It is the control part that she cares about most!  : )

3/29/12

Kenzie ate seconds on cinnamon toast and thirds on grapes at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her chicken and canned cherries about half of her dinner roll and a bite of mashed potatoes.

Kenzie was very busy this morning looking for all of the doctor tools she could find and collecting them into one of the firefighter hats.  She then didn't play with any of them, just guarded them so no one would take them.  If someone wanted to play with one of them, I had them ask for it and then had Kenzie choose which one of them they could have.  It worked pretty well, except when someone got to her before I saw it coming and just tried to either grab it from her or yell for it.  : )

I have been watching pretty closely these last couple weeks and have come to the conclusion that several of the kiddos seem to like to bug Kenzie because they get such great reactions from her.  Thomas, Jadey and sometimes Morgan and Alayna are the main ones.  What makes me say that is that when they go over and try to take something from her, they are intently watching her face, then when she either screams at them, cries or lashes back, they will take off (not even keeping the item they were "after").  I have been trying to help her respond differently, but this seems to be her primary response so it will probably take a while.  : )

Kenzie kept wrapping up one of the dolls then laying down beside it and putting another blanket over her.  Joslyn was helping her cover herself up.  Joslyn loves to be the little mother, so that was right up her alley.

4/4/12

I am sorry I have been having such a difficult time getting journals done every day.  Mia has been waking up about the time I am done getting everyone down for naps and things cleaned up after lunch.  I then spend the rest of nap time trying to keep her happy and quiet so she doesn't wake up the rest of the kiddos.  I am going to try to just do journals right after I get off work if I don't get to them at nap time until her routine changes.  I will try to catch up with the previous three tonight after work.

Kenzie ate all of her dried mangoes and about half of her whole wheat toast with jelly at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her tropical fruit, about half of her beef and bean burrito and a bite of sweet potato.

Kenzie was playing with the play drill a lot today.  First of all, she was "drilling" in her ear -- must have been trying to clear out some wax or something.  : )  She then decided that Emily's chest needed drilled.  Emily liked it at first and kept telling her it "tickled".  When Kenzie kept doing it, it got old and we had to tell her Emily was done.

Alayna and Kenzie decided that the dress-up deal was their car.  They had their keys and phone and when one would leave the other one called them back.  First it was Alayna that went to get something and Kenzie called to her, "Alayna, tumm in heeyah!"  Alayna got back in and said to Kenzie, "Ya ready to doe?"  They played in it for at least 15 minutes and had no conflict the entire time.

Morgan had one of the play flip phones and was holding it up and "taking pictures" of Emily and Alayna doing "back flips" on the mattress.  Every once in a while she would stop and look intently at the camera display and said, "Oh cute!".  Morgan made it look so fun that soon Kenzie and Joslyn were imitating what she was doing.  It was really cute!
