4/18/2011

Kenzie only drank 2 ounces of her bottles all morning.  She drank a little from her cup at lunch, but not too much even then.  She did eat all of her mandarin oranges, the ham out of her ham sandwich, some bites of the sandwich bread and a taste of steamed broccoli.

Kenzie had a typical morning nap today and woke up happy.  Other than sounding kind of raspy, coughing a little and her nose running she didn't act like she wasn't feeling well today.  She didn't even fuss when I had to leave the room to use the bathroom or to fix Peyton and her a bottle.

Kenzie is really getting so she notices and spends more time exploring the toys after toy exchange days.  She went over to the book rack and studied the books that were in there for quite a while.  She finally picked out three books and took them over to her usual spot on the yellow bench to "read".

She was also carrying around one of the "baby"s and a blanket to go with it.  The blankets that are out are pretty big for someone her size and she kept stepping on it, but it didn't seem to phase her.  She would just either keep walking until she had walked off of it or dropped it then walked over the top of it.

We have several shaker toys out and she was having a lot of fun with them.  She likes the rowdiest ones, which are the rings with big marbly beads enclosed inside them.  The other ones are transparent rainsticks and the shaker eggs.  They don't appeal to her as much.  : )

4/15/2011

Kenzie hasn't been drinking her bottle as well overall lately -- often 3-4 ounces after some cajoling.  There are still occasions when she does pretty good, but it is definitely less often.  She is eating better over all, I think it feels like she is gaining a little weight, and she is still having about the same number of wet diapers so she must be getting what she is needing.

Kenzie napped pretty typically for her this morning.  She had a poopy diaper after her morning nap.  She ate well at lunch.  She ate all of her whole wheat french bread, most of her meatloaf meat and a bite or two of both cooked carrots and tiny bits of dried apricots.

Morgan and Kenzie were playing peek-a-boo with each other so great in the back room.  Kenzie was around the corner in the little taken out closet area.  She would peak out and Morgan would crack up.  Kenzie would pop back around the corner and repeat the process over and over.  Both of them were really chuckling.   It is so fun to watch them interact like that!

Kenzie got plenty of cuddle time with both Gary and with me.  Peyton isn't coming on Fridays yet, so she didn't have to share me today.  She definitely took advantage of that and came over to hang out on my lap for brief periods of time frequently.  It is so hard to resist those cute little arms out and the begging little face.  She is like an adorable puppy that way.  : )

4/14/2011

Kenzie drank about 4 ounces of her bottle this morning and didn't want any before her afternoon nap.  At lunch she ate most of her roll half, quite a bit of homemade chicken strips, all of her canned cherries and a taste of mashed potatoes.  She hasn't had a poopy diaper yet today, but I think I forgot to tell you that she was poopy after her nap yesterday.

Kenzie has developed a ritual that she has been following every morning this week.  After she cuddles for a while and wants down, she goes over to the book rack, gets two books then takes them and sits down on one of the little yellow benches and looks at them independently.  It is really cute.

She was carrying one of the dolls around and looking at it very lovingly saying, "Baby, baby, baby" to it.  I know you said you had seen her doing that at home, but I hadn't yet and it was adorable!  She also was saying "baby" at baby Peyton today too.

Kenzie sent down for her morning nap about 20 minutes earlier than usual, but the length of her nap was still about the same this morning.

I think it is so cute how she puts her arms up to us (and even the bigger kiddos once in a while).  She does it a lot when Coral is around because she knows that Coral can't resist her!  : )  I think she does it to both Gary and I about equally.  The thing we have noticed though is that when she gets hurt or is upset about anything she still definitely wants me to comfort her.

4/13/2011

Kenzie didn't drink much this morning.  I tried a bottle three different times and she drank about 4 ounces total.  She ate a few kernels of corn and some of her homemade macaroni and cheese at lunch.

Right about the time I usually put her down for her morning nap, she came over and got me then pointed up to the changing table.  It was as though her internal clock told her it was time to go to bed.  She has never done that before.  She woke up from her morning map about 20 minutes early and was definitely ready to go back to bed after lunch.  She hasn't pooped yet today.

She was also really wanting me to hold her frequently.  It was never for very long, but she was back with her arms up many times.  She also did NOT like it when I was holding baby Peyton today.  Must be a little jealous!  I had a difficult time getting Peyton to eat her bottle because Kenzie was either pulling on us or crying wanting up, which distracted and frustrated Peyton.  I think we are going to have her hang out with Gary while I feed Peyton to eliminate the struggle in the future.

Kenzie kept bringing me one of the flip phones to open this morning.  After I would flip it over for her or help her do it, she would then put it up to her ear with an expectant and half amused look on her face.  It was really cute.

4/12/2011

Kenzie drank all of her morning bottle but didn't want any before her afternoon nap.  She ate well at lunch though (tuna on crackers, mandarin oranges and even a bite or two of sweet potatoes).  She napped about average this morning and hasn't had a poopy diaper yet today.

Kenzie is pretty intrigued by baby Peyton.  She has been pointing to her and saying "baby" pretty plainly several times today.  It is kind of nice to have littler ones like this around when a child is about to have a sibling because that way they get used to it before it happens in their house with their mommy and daddy!  : )

I was holding the baby when she came in today and she did good with it, not fussing or anything.  As soon as I put Peyton down, though, Kenzie was right there with her little arms up, wanting to have her turn cuddling too.  I thought that was pretty cute!

Gary went out to put something in the mail box today.  The kiddos all love to watch and then he always takes some time to be silly with them outside the window when he comes back.  Kenzie chuckled while she watched the show from a distance for a little then headed over to the window about the time he was leaving.  When she got there, she peaked all around outside like she was trying to figure out where he went.

4/11/2011

Kenzie drank most of both of her bottles so far today.  At lunch she ate pretty well -- roast beef sandwich and apple bits (no tomato soup).  She had a pretty good sized and loose poopy diaper today, so that was good.  She took an average morning nap, but also was extremely tired at afternoon nap time.

I am sure that Kenzie knows Gary thinks she is the cutest thing around.  She has been walking over to him and putting her arms up to have him hold her frequently, sitting by him when he is at her level or just following him with her eyes, ready to grin when he looks at her.  Today he was sitting on the little step under the big window.  Kenzie walked over to where he was, backed up and sat down right beside him then looked up at him with adoring eyes.  How is he supposed to resist that?  : )

Kenzie was also spending time looking at several books from the book rack and carrying toys from point A to Point B.  Her favorite things to carry are the play cookies and the spoons.

4/8/2011

Kenzie drank her first bottle well and ate her biscuit and mandarin oranges at lunch well.  She didn't drink much of her juice or her bottle before her afternoon nap. She slept about average this morning, but this afternoon slept about half an hour and even that was restless and fussy.  I guess it can't be her ears, so ...  : )

Kenzie spent quite a bit of time looking at books today and putting them in a neat little pile beside her when she was done.  Morgan went over and sat by her looking at books to for a while and that was really cute!

Kenzie was also walking around carrying the cups and cookies incase she wanted a little snack.

Kenzie was also climbing into the block shelf and peeking around the corner at me.  She then tried to stand up and bumped her head a little, but no fussing.

4/7/2011

Kenzie drank and ate well today.  At lunch we had turkey, crescent roll, squash and dried mangoes.  She had a bite of squash and that was enough for her, but she ate basically everything else.  I cut the dried mangoes into little tiny slivers so she wouldn't choke and she loved them.  I was sure you had brought some baby food with mangoes in it when she was littler, so I thought it was probably not highlighted just for fear of choking.

She only took a short nap this morning and was pretty tired by afternoon nap time.  She was asleep almost as soon as I laid her down.  She had a poopy diaper after her morning nap (which could be why she woke up early), but her but wasn't very sore at all and she didn't even whimper when I cleaned her up.  : )

Kenzie was pretending to drink out of one of the little play cups today.  She handed it to me so I was pretending to drink also, making sipping sounds.  She was really watching and chuckling amusedly.  : )

She initiated playing 'peek-a-boo' around one of the toy shelves with me today and was again chuckling when I "peeked" at her.  If I got distracted by one of the other kiddos, she made the funniest little hoot sounds (like a little owl) to get my attention back again.  It was really cute.

Kenzie was packing big block after big block over to the "box" and tossing them in.  Bye the time she finished she had about 10 of them in there.  Every time she threw one in, she would turn around and look at me like she had really done something important.  : )

4/6/2011

Kenzie drank well today and ate lunch amazingly well also.  We had bean and bacon soup, ham bits, kiwi and saltines.  She ate two small slices of ham (cut into bits), all of her 2 crackers, about half of her bean soup and a couple bites of kiwi!  I thought that was great for Kenzie!  She napped and drank normally today.  She also pooped, but it was only a little red, although you would have thought it was raw the way she sounded while I was cleaning her up.

Kenzie was really after Emily today.  She was following her around for about 10 minutes trying to take her toy.  Emily was doing a pretty good job this time of keeping ahold of it and not giving it up, which Kenzie is not used to.

Kenzie was looking at lots of books again today.  That seems to be one of her favorite activities lately.  She will "read" them either in the actual book area or carry them somewhere else to look at them.

Coral spent the day with us today and Kenzie went over to her with her arms up for her to pick her up several times.  Coral really liked that!  : )

4/5/2011

Kenzie was definitely a lot more alert acting today and back to her happy and busy self.  She did get tired a little earlier both this morning and this afternoon.  Her morning nap was about average and she went to sleep quicker for her afternoon nap than she has for a while.  It is amazing what relieving pressure in those ears can do!  : )

Kenzie drank well today -- both bottle and cup, but didn't eat great.  At lunch she ate some fish, but only played with her peas and noodles and wouldn't taste the applesauce.  She had a poopy diaper before nap (just kind of smeared all over, but nothing substantial).

Kenzie was really examining everything.  We not only did toy exchange, but also switched the mattress to the back room and the moved things around in the big room.  She went over to the book area and was really looking at several of the books there.

She was really watching as Joslyn put one of the transparent scarves over her head and was walking around.  Kenzie kind of chuckled and went over and picked a scarf up too.  I expected her to put it on her own head, but she never did.

I think she was glad to be back.  She put her arms up several times to both Gary and I for us to pick her up.  Like you said, even though she was very busy, she also wanted those cuddly times too.
